Situated in the wide shallow bay of Traigh Mhòr, at the northern tip of the island, Barra Airport is the only one in the world where scheduled flights use the tidal beach as a runway. Its flight schedule is governed by the ebb and flow of the tide. Departing from Glasgow Airport, the twice-daily flights take approximately 1hr 15mins.
